Criteria for Selecting Sports
The Saudi Special Olympics provides year-round training and competitions for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization believes in offering athletes opportunities across a wide range of team and individual sports, which support its mission, vision, and objectives.
Sports are selected based on the official list of 37 recognized sports by Special Olympics International, providing structured training and competitive opportunities for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the year.
The Saudi Special Olympics ensures these opportunities are meaningful and purposeful, offering competitive experiences tailored to different participation levels. Considerations include available resources, opportunities for growth and sustainability, and adaptable sports options that align with athletes’ interests and abilities.
